Designed to enhance opportunities for independence
in the home and improved access to the community for those with
blindness and visual impairment, the Social Services
Program includes:
Casework Services
Caseworkers schedule home visits, conduct financial, eligibility,
and needs assessments, and inform clients of all appropriate agency
and community resources that may be beneficial.
Quality of Life Instruction
Groups meet for support that promotes adjustment to vision loss
through effective adaptive and coping skills. Agenda includes instruction,
discussions, informational lectures by guest speakers, art workshops,
field trips and social activities.
Escort Transportation
Drivers, specially trained in sighted guide techniques, provide
door to door transportation to doctor appointments, supermarkets,
banks, and to locations related to receipt of services or material
assistance.
Chore Services
Trained staff assist clients with labeling, household organization,
correspondence, and filling out forms for receipt of benefits.
There are specific eligibility requirements
for all agency Social Services.
