The goal of the Prevention
of Blindness program is to increase the public’s understanding
and respect for people with blindness and visual impairment, to
dispel myths about blindness, and to educate the community in appropriate
vision care practices which will reduce vision loss. Components
of the program include:
Vision Awareness Program
Specially trained CBVI staff visit senior centers, retirement communities,
health fairs, and geriatric social service agencies to alert those
over the age of 50 of the changes associated with aging vision,
and the symptoms of eye diseases. Speakers inform seniors of services
and devices available to maintain their independence despite vision
loss.
Public Education For Children
Speakers visit area schools and through hands-on activities provide
children with information on blindness, eye safety, and myths that
surround vision loss.
Corporate Visits
Presenters are available to address employees on eye safety in the
workplace.
