“Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country,” John F. Kennedy, 1960. These words represent presidential eloquence at its best, but when spoken, the sentiment was hardly new. For millennia, the world’s great religions have delivered the same message… “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”… in other words, ask not what your neighbors can do for you, ask what you can do for your neighbors. Through the personal generosity of CBVI’s many caring donors, we are able to give a helping hand, through our training and support services, to good people who have lost their vision. CBVI’s kind donors do not ask what others can do for them; they ask what can they do for others, and they do it. In this News and Views, you will see success stories of people learning how to travel safely and independently, learning how to cook and garden, learning how to communicate using Braille, and learning how to use technology for the blind at work. You will also see people accessing the community, visiting art museums and learning about ancient coins. These are a few examples of the thousands of hours of direct service provided for our blind and visually impaired neighbors each year. Without the kindness of our donors and supporters, CBVI could not have significant impact on the lives of people who have lost their vision. On behalf of all those who benefit from the kindness and caring of our donors, I thank you.
May the gift of giving be with you all year.
